Mercedes Recall
Mercedes-Benz has recently recalled some if its cars due to a violation of the Clean Air Act. They will pay $1.2 million due to this violation and $59 million to recall all of the vehicles manufactured between 1998 and 2006. They are also looking to shell out an additional $1 million a year to improve future vehicles. On the recalled vehicles were defective air pumps and air converters, which resulted in the release harmful pollutants into the air that can contain hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide. After the EPA investigation, Mercedes declared that they would extend their warranty to cover a third defect found in their automobiles.

I think that it’s good to know that the EPA is looking out for our well being, even when it means cracking down on a very “high end” company. No matter how ritzy Mercedes is, they still have to follow the law. When they don’t do enough to prevent harmful emissions they end up losing money by paying fines and paying for recalls.
